Motivating Students!

After the spread of Covid-19, the educational institutions were asked to move the classes online and this was not an easy task.  Teaching online is difficult with many challenges and requires learning new skills.  Most of the times it is harder for teachers to maintain student's attention through online classes than it is through the classroom.  Due to lack of motivation, students often lose interest in listening to the lesson.

So, what may be the right ways to motivate our students during online classes?

First of all, there are many and many ways how to motive your students to be attentive in the class, but the most important to me is that the teacher should give their students as many feedbacks as necessary while they try to speak, read or do the exercises about the lesson in order to motivate them. If students are given feedbacks they feel more motivated and pay attention to lesson.
Secondly, the teacher should use some technology tools that may help them to create a very interesting lesson's presentation. By using this method you definitely grab your students' attention.  Most of the time students perceive information in visual form better than it is explained by teacher in the blackboard so in that case teacher must use more videos explaining and illustrating key points of the lesson.  Even thought  a PowerPoint presentation with important material from lesson is another way to make students pay attention to the lesson.
Also, the teacher should provide interactive activities during online lessons. Some interactive activities can be used by teachers are: icebreakers, quizzes, games, puzzles, brainstorm activities and etc.  By providing these activities the students will get involve more than usual during lesson.

Providing feedbacks from your students about the lesson is another way to make them pay attention to it. If you ask the students to give their feedbacks about the lesson, or what they would like to do different in class etc., they will be able to say the likes and dislikes during lesson by the end of it or at the time you may ask them to give their feedbacks.

By the end, we could say that it is important to motivate students during online classes but not only during online ones. The motivation should be present every time. And if you will not be able to capture your learners' attention, or to motivate them in several ways, then you definitely will not be able to provide or deliver an effective learning experience to them.
